Will the Kia Tasman be sold in the US? Well, it’s being tested there!

We’ve already had a sneak peek of Kia’s upcoming dual-cab pickup with its sturdy body-on-frame design. Kia Australia has also given the revealed that it’ll be named Tasman. Today, we’ve got fresh snaps courtesy of our mates at KindelMedia, who snapped the pickup prototype in California. The big question remains: Will the Kia Tasman be sold in the States?

Kia confirms Hybrid Powertrain

Initially, only one engine will be on offer—the familiar 4 cylinder, 2.2L CRDi diesel engine, delivering 200 hp, will be the sole choice for buyers. Kia will add a hybrid powertrain down the track. However, compared to rivals like the Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux, which boast 3.0L V6 diesel and other V6 petrol options, the Tasman might seem a tad underpowered. So, we all want to know… will the Tasman get a 3.5L twin-turbo option? If the Staria gets a 3.5L V6 option, surely the Tasman GT will, right?

Kia’s high hopes

Kia plans to churn out between 120,000 to 130,000 Tasman units annually, showing its confidence in its global appeal. Available not only in Kia’s homeland but also in key overseas markets like North America, Europe, and Australia, the Tasman is ready to compete globally in the ute/pickup truck/bakkie arena.

The Kia Tasman signifies Kia’s bold leap into the cutthroat light-commercial market. With its robust engine options, practical design, and global market strategy, the Tasman is set to capture the attention of truck enthusiasts and professionals alike. As more details trickle in, anticipation for this groundbreaking model only mounts, setting the stage for what could be one of the most significant vehicle launches in the near future.
