KGM officially launches Musso brand

KG Mobility (KGM) has officially unveiled its new integrated pickup brand, “Musso,” on January 24, marking a key milestone in the company’s evolution. The name “Musso,” derived from the Korean word for rhinoceros, embodies strength, grandeur, and resilience. This launch signals a new chapter in KGM’s vehicle lineup, with the brand’s first new model, the Musso EV, set to debut in the first quarter. Notably, the Musso EV will claim the title of Korea’s first electric pickup truck, beating Kia’s Tasman.

The Musso brand builds on a legacy that began in 1993 under the SsangYong Motor banner, renowned for producing robust SUVs. KGM’s foray into the Sports Utility Truck (SUT) segment started in 2002 with the Musso Sports, which successfully combined SUV practicality with pickup-level cargo capabilities. Over the years, this innovation paved the way for models like the Actyon Sports, Korando Sports, and the current Rexton Sports (already called the Musso in Australia), cementing the popularity of pickups in South Korea.

The Musso EV, previously referred to as “O100” during development, blends the functional style of pickups with the economic efficiency of electric vehicles, aligning with global trends toward electrification. Designed to meet modern demands for practicality and versatility, the Musso EV aims to accommodate a range of lifestyles, offering both utility and customisation. In a strategic move, the Musso EV will make its first public appearance at the 2025 Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival, an event of cultural significance in Korea.

A KGM representative shared the company’s vision: “With the launch of this brand, we will set a new paradigm as a leader in K-pickups. We will continue to develop and expand a diverse portfolio of pickups to uphold the Musso legacy.”

This brand launch and the upcoming release of the Musso EV underline KGM’s commitment to innovation and leadership in the Korean automotive sector. Building on its SsangYong Motor heritage, KGM is adapting to modern consumer preferences and technological advancements. As Korea’s first electric pickup, the Musso EV is poised to make a significant impact, showcasing KGM’s forward-thinking approach in a competitive global market.
