Hyundai N74 hydrogen supercar already preparing for production

There’s no denying the fervent enthusiasm car aficionados have for the Hyundai N Vision 74 concept. This sleek, modern homage to the Pony boasts a hydrogen fuel cell and delivers a jaw-dropping 670 horsepower (499 kW).

Rumours of the car’s production have swirled since its debut, and earlier this year, Albert Biermann, the driving force behind the N division, quashed those hopes. But, in a twist that would make any soap opera proud, new reports suggest parts are already in development.

The Korea Economic Daily claims Hyundai plans to build 200 examples of the N Vision 74, starting in June 2026. Production will span two years, with 100 units produced annually. Presently, the car is in pre-production development, with a tier-one supplier indicating that contracted components should be ready by July this year.

Evidently, the car is codenamed N74—because, you know, secrecy—and will feature gull-wing doors while retaining its hydrogen drivetrain. However, it won’t be exactly like the concept model. Rumour has it the production version will pump out a whopping 764 horsepower (569 kW), a significant jump from the concept’s 670. It’s also said to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 96 km/h) in around three seconds, ensuring it won’t just look fast but actually be fast.

Despite the buzz, Hyundai remains tight-lipped. Biermann’s stance was clear when he stated, “We are not making show cars,” in reference to the N Vision 74. He highlighted the staggering $366,000 price tag suggested by reports, arguing it would make the car unattainable for most enthusiasts.

Biermann emphasised his vision for Hyundai’s N cars, saying, “This is what we need on the road and not the front-page car for the very few who put them in the garage.” His sentiment reflects a desire to keep high-performance vehicles accessible, ensuring they don’t become mere trophies for the elite.
