Ford announces Ranger Super Duty pricing!

The Ford Ranger lineup will gain a new flagship in early 2026, with the introduction of the Ranger Super Duty — a name long associated with North America’s most capable Ford trucks — bringing significant gains in towing, payload, and durability.

Available initially in cab-chassis configurations only, pricing for the new heavy-duty Ranger variants will start at $82,990 before on-road costs, not including the tray. Ford Australia has confirmed that a pickup version, as well as an XLT Super Duty variant, will follow in the latter half of 2026.

The launch of the Super Duty marks a significant shift in Ford’s mid-size ute strategy, positioning the Ranger to compete not just with the segment-leading Toyota HiLux, but also with newer entrants such as the Kia Tasman and BYD Shark 6.

Higher capability, upgraded components

All Super Duty variants will offer a braked towing capacity of 4500kg — a notable increase over the 3500kg limit common in the segment — and payloads up to 1982kg depending on the configuration.

The Single Cab-Chassis leads the range in payload with 1982kg and 299mm of ground clearance. The Super Cab-Chassis offers a slightly reduced payload of 1896kg with 297mm ground clearance, while the Double Cab-Chassis delivers 1825kg and 295mm ground clearance.

All three variants share a widened track of 1710mm — identical to the Ranger Raptor and 90mm wider than standard Ranger grades — giving the Super Duty greater on-road stability and off-road capability.

Axle load ratings have also increased significantly. The Super Duty front axle is rated to 1900kg, while the rear axle supports up to 2800kg. In comparison, the front axle load for a standard Ranger XLT dual cab tops out at 1450kg, with a rear axle load rating of 1959kg.

Water wading depth has also improved, with the Super Duty capable of fording up to 850mm — 50mm more than the standard Ranger lineup.

To handle the added demands, Ford has upgraded the cooling system and reinforced the drivetrain to accommodate a 4500kg Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) and 8000kg Gross Combined Mass (GCM).

Familiar engine, unique tuning

Powering all three cab-chassis variants is Ford’s existing 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine, tuned specifically for the Super Duty range. While the torque figure remains unchanged at 600Nm (available from 1750rpm), peak power drops to 154kW — 30kW lower than other Ranger V6 diesel models.

According to Ford, this recalibration was designed to optimise torque delivery under heavy load conditions, while continuing to meet modern emissions standards.

“The Ranger Super Duty project was about pushing the boundaries of what a mid-size truck can achieve,” said Drew O’Shannassy, program supervisor for the Ranger Super Duty. “We focused relentlessly on core capability – increasing GVM, GAWR and towing capacity – while ensuring the truck remains incredibly durable and easy to operate in challenging environments.”
