Kia Tasman ute tested on icy roads

The upcoming 2025 Kia Tasman ute has been spied testing in Sweden, coinciding with Kia’s official teaser campaign for its first global pick-up. The core powertrain is confirmed to be a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rumours suggest some markets may also receive a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol version. This could pose competition to Volkswagen’s Amarok Aventura and potentially a V6-powered Tasman GT to rival the Ford Ranger Raptor.

Spy shots reveal key design elements, including Kia EV9-style headlights, contrasting wing guards, blocky body sculpting, and Ford Ranger-style tub steps. Despite initial confusion about proportions, the pre-production vehicle lacks showroom-spec trimmings seen on Kia Australia’s website. The Tasman’s unique appearance, resembling a Jeep Gladiator in profile, is expected to deliver robust performance with generous ground clearance, suspension travel, and capabilities such as towing up to 3500kg.

The Tasman employs leaf springs and a live axle at the rear, coupled with a double-wishbone arrangement at the front. Standard features on 4×4 versions include low-range, a locking rear diff, an 800mm wading depth, and comprehensive driver assistance technologies. Set for a global debut later this year, the 2025 Kia Tasman is anticipated to hit Australian showrooms in the first half of the following year, possibly after a global launch at the Australian Open tennis tournament.
