MG has confirmed further details of its electric vehicle range for Australia, which includes two battery sizes. The MG4 electric vehicle will be available to Australian buyers in a 50.8kWh-usable battery or a longer-range 61.7kWh-usable battery, with the launch now set for the second half of 2023. The MG4 will rival the Hyundai Kona EV, the BYD Atto 3, and the Tesla Model 3.
The Australian range of the MG4 will include three variants: the MG4 51 COM with the 51kWh battery, and the MG4 64 COM and MG4 64 LUX with the 64kWh battery, possibly indicating new trim grades of Comfort and Luxury. The three driving ranges listed are 350km for the 51kWh Comfort variant, 450km for the 64kWh Comfort, and 435km for the 64kWh Luxury, all on the European WLTP protocol. However, the NEDC column for an Australian range measurement is still listed as TBA.

One notable difference between the two battery sizes is their peak charging speed. The 50.8kWh-usable battery has a peak charging speed of 117kW, promising 37 minute top-ups to an 80 percent state of charge. Meanwhile, the 61.7kWh-usable battery can tolerate quicker 135kW charging, slashing an 80 percent top-up to 34 minutes, despite the extra range.
The UK MG4 lineup includes an SE standard range model, as well as entry-level SE and upmarket Trophy trims for the long-range battery. The entry-level trim in the UK has a 10.25-inch touchscreen, MG Pilot semi-autonomous driving features, and a seven-inch digital display, while the high-spec variant adds satellite navigation, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and device-as-key functionality.
MG has not yet locked in the final Australian specs or prices, but they have confirmed that they will be released closer to the spring or summer Australian release date for the MG4.
