Suzuki Announces EV Jimny & 4 Other EVs Before 2030

Suzuki, the Japanese car manufacturer, has announced plans to launch six fully electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030, with the first set to debut in Japan this year. The company has released a silhouette of several electric vehicles it is currently working on, including what appears to be a version of its popular Jimny 4WD.

Focusing on its primary markets of Japan, Europe, and India, Suzuki will begin its rollout of EVs in Japan with small commercial vehicles in 2023, before expanding to a total of six EVs with a range of small passenger vehicles and SUVs. Europe will see the arrival of its first of five electric vehicles in 2024, with the local lineup consisting of some SUVs and B-segment vehicles such as the Suzuki Swift.

Suzuki has outlined a total of six new EVs, with five of those coming to Europe. The company stated that EVs will make up 20% of its 2030 lineup in Japan, 15% in India, but 80% for Europe. While no specific plans have been outlined for Australia, it is likely that the local arm of Suzuki will be able to select from the vehicles as long as the models are available in right-hand-drive.

In addition to its EV plans, Suzuki has announced its intention to achieve carbon neutrality in Japan and Europe by 2050, with a slightly longer timeframe of 2070 for India. The announcement follows the recent unveiling of Suzuki’s eVX concept vehicle, a small- to medium-sized SUV that is set to go on sale in production form in 2025 and could serve as a replacement for the Grand Vitara. The eVX is equipped with a 60kWh battery, has a maximum range of 550km on a single charge, and comes with 4×4 capability.
